Documenting the passing of time
Mediums: HB pencil

Process: First, I search for images depicting the entire life cycle of a flower, from blooming to withering. Then, I lightly sketch the overall shape of the object using a pencil. Next, I add finer details, and finally, I fill in the areas that will become shadows or shaded parts.

Reflection: The shape of the petals was quite complex, and I struggled to depict the overlapping parts accurately. Additionally, to capture the round shape of the bud, I added a few faint lines to the petals and added shading

Image 7
Reflection: Sketching a blooming flower requires rendering overlapping petals in a three-dimensional manner. I paid particular attention to accurately depicting the texture of the petals, the presence of veins, and the unique characteristics of the flower. Additionally, effectively using shadows to convey the even spread of the petals was a complex and challenging aspect of the process

Image 8
Reflection: I realised that it's important to convey the lack of vitality in a slightly withered flower sketch. By directing the outer petals and leaves downward, you can depict the wilting process. Additionally, by adding darker shadows, it can illustrate the flower drooping

Image 9
Reflection: Depicting the change in texture that withered flower petals and stems exhibit, distinct from fresh flowers, proved to be quite challenging. I chose to convey this change in texture by using strong, rough lines for the shadows on the petals.

Image 10
Reflection: To depict the final stage of the flower where the stem is bending and many petals are falling, I made adjustments to the flower's outline by giving it a slightly rounded appearance, aiming to reproduce the appearance of the flower contracting. Additionally, I tapered the tip of the stem to convey the idea that it couldn't bear the weight of the flower, further emphasising the wilting effect.

By sketching these stages of the flowers, I have honed my observational skills and learned various sketching techniques. I feel that this experience has been a valuable opportunity for artistic growth
